Good Morning Mr. Speaker.
We have heard an interminable amount of lectures on the financial deficiencies of this government since assuming office in July 2017 – sadly coming from self appointed experts who are attempting to rewrite modern history – in the hope we have no historical memory.

Good Morning Mr. Speaker.
I rise this morning to report on works soon to commence at the Kings Wharf in the Royal Naval Dockyard - but before doing so a historical perspective might be useful.

Members of the Montserrat Customs and Revenue Service (MCRS) will conclude their consultation with the Ministry of Public Works’ Land Valuation Department tomorrow, 16 October.

MCRS members have been in Bermuda since 8 October to conduct research on, and observe the following processes:

Thank you for coming today to allow me to provide an update on the Hamilton Health Centre.

The Health Centre has been under stress over the past month due to a number of structural problems with the facility and, most recently, for example, three floods at the Hamilton Health Centre, water quality issues,  and several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the problems. The fire at Warwick Clinic further compounded the demands placed on our resources.

Thank you for joining me this afternoon for an update on operational changes at three of the four Quangos that fall under the Ministry of Public Works – they being the Bermuda Land Development Company, the Bermuda Housing Corporation, The West End Development Corporation and Golf Courses.

Let me begin by thanking the people of Bermuda, who have adapted magnificently to the implementation of once a week garbage collection. While there are still some hold outs - in the main people have adjusted and neighbours are taking pride in their own neighbourhoods. As we enter week 9 – we are greatly encouraged by the adjustment and I am pleased to report on progress thus far.

Everyone is aware of the inherited challenges we faced with both personnel and vehicles in the waste management section.

As you are aware, the Ministry of Public Works advised of once per week garbage collection. The new schedule is from Feb. 19^th – Apr. 27^th.

Let me begin this press conference by apologizing to the people of Bermuda for the rapid deterioration in the collection of garbage over the past few days – to say we are facing a number of challenges would be an understatement.

You will be aware from my ministerial statement in Parliament on October 20th last year that there has been an ever increasing challenge with both personnel and vehicles in the waste management section. To remind - an excerpt from that statement and I quote:

I am here today to provide an update on the readiness of our school buildings for 2017/18 academic year which officially begins for all students on Monday, September 11^th.

The Ministry of Public Works is pleased to announce that 20.24 tonnes of recyclables were collected from the America's Cup event village during the 22 day event last month.  This amount increased Bermuda's monthly recycling, which averages 63 tonnes, by just under 50% per day during the event period.
