The Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col. the Hon. David Burch, OBE, ED, JP, MP, reminds the public of their responsibility regarding waste management.

Minister Burch said, “The general public is reminded to adhere to the normal garbage collection schedule. This includes ensuring your garbage is placed curbside before 7:30 am on your regularly scheduled collection day.

Tipping Fees

“An increase implemented late and without proper notice…” said Public Works Minister, Lt. Col David Burch today following complaints from landscapers and members of the public regarding the recently implemented increase in tipping fees at Marsh Folly and the Airport Dump.

Minister Burch said, “Since becoming aware of this issue, I have taken the time to gather all of the facts before making any public comment. As a result I can advise the public of the following important points:

Wheeled Bins for sale

The Ministry of Public Works is advising that the Waste Management Section has started a pilot programme involving the sale of household waste and recycling wheeled bins for to the public.

  • The wheeled plastic garbage bins with lids have a capacity of 360 litres (95 gallons) and are $125.00 each (NO LONGER IN STOCK).
  • The wheeled plastic recycling bins with lids have a capacity of 140 litres (37 gallons) and are available at a price of $40.00 each.

The Ministry notes that quantities for purchase are limited to two per household for each bin.

Power Engineering

I am pleased to join the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. Lt. Col. David Burch in highlighting the success of Marcal Wilkinson and Hezekiah Rampersad.

These two young men as Minister Burch indicated were among 40 other persons who attended an information session in 2018 about power engineering. They will be attending Cambrian College of Applied Arts & Technology to study for an Advanced Diploma in Power Engineering Technology (PWTY).

Kings Wharf Terminal Roof Wetting

Good afternoon and welcome to the recently refurbished King’s Wharf at the Royal Naval Dockyard – one of two deep water cruise berths.

Before we get to the principal reason for being here – a bit of history is in order. It was November 17th, 2018 that we began the demolition of the previous terminal and the entire dock.

Following a comprehensive inspection in 2014 - deck problems were clearly identified and the report at that time estimated a replacement cost of the deck and terminal building at more than $20M.
