Ministerial Statement by the Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col. the Hon. David A. Burch, OBE (Mil), ED, JP, MP

Good Morning Mr. Speaker.

Last November I reported extensively on the plan for the complete refurbishment of King’s Wharf at the Royal Naval Dockyard – one of our two deep water cruise berths built in 1987/88.

The main structure comprised a structural steel frame encased in reinforced concrete, with reinforced concrete slabs - constructed at a cost of $9 Million dollars.

Grow Eat Save Graduation

Last week, the Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col. the Hon. David A. Burch, OBE (Mil), ED, JP, MP, addressed the graduates of the 5th Grow! Eat! $ave! programme.

Grow! Eat! $ave! is an initiative of Nutrition Services of the Department of Health with the aim of encouraging the public to eat more vegetables, teach sustainable nutrition and at the same time save money. It is offered to the public free of charge.

Good afternoon and welcome to the Government Quarry in Bailey’s Bay –the principal location of the Department of Works & Engineering – the home of the Asphalt Plant, Recycling Plant, Ministry Stores, Heavy Equipment and repair shops.

This has been a long journey, an almost two year one to provide modern, state of the art Stores facility and Heavy Machinery Repair Shop.

We are here today to conduct the traditional Bermudian roof wetting of two buildings.

Piped Government water services interruptions affecting Devonshire, Smiths and Hamilton Parishes

The Ministry of Public Works is reminding its piped water customers in Devonshire, Smiths, and Hamilton parishes that starting Tuesday, 26 February, 2019, the Ministry will begin work on repairing and replacing the water mains along Middle Road, Fort Hill Road and Watlington Road East which feed these parishes.

Some points the Ministry wished those affected customers to be aware of:

Road restrictions advisory - Jan. 18 - 20

As the public is aware, Bermuda Marathon Weekend events get underway tomorrow (18 January), and the Ministry of Public Works is reminding of the road restrictions/closures that will be in place tomorrow through 20, January.

The public is encouraged to plan ahead to avoid traffic delays.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to comment on the West End Development Corporation (Wedco) and the Bermuda Land Development Company (BLDC) Reports for various periods.
Let me begin with the West End Development Corporations (Wedco) Annual Reports for operating years 2016 and 2017.
