School Readiness

Earlier this month, Cabinet approved several contracts to local businesses for the painting of Bermuda's public schools. Last week, the Minister of Public Works the Hon. Craig Cannonier JP MP and the Minister of Education the Hon. Wayne Scott JP MP toured two of the schools (Elliot Primary School and Purvis Primary School) where work was well underway.

Government partners with private sector to train young Bermudians

Thanks to a partnership between the Ministry of Public Works and Bermuda Motors, two young trainee mechanics now have several Ford Motor Company Certificates under their belts, which recognize their proficiency in certain areas including: Brake Service Procedures, Advanced Brake Systems Theory & Operation, and Advanced Brake Systems Diagnosis.

Development of a utility-scale solar photo-voltaic installation

The Ministries of Economic Development and Public Works of the Government of Bermuda are in the process of developing an RFQ and RFP for the development of a utility-scale solar photo-voltaic installation on ‘the Finger’ at the L.F. Wade International Airport.

Traffic Advisory: South Shore, Paget

The Ministry of Public Works wishes to advise the public of an update with regards to repairs being made to a section of badly broken concrete sidewalk on South Road, Paget, between the bend at the Southcote Road junction and Tribe Road #4b (the public access route to Elbow Beach).
 
The concrete for the new sidewalk was previously expected to be poured on Monday 30th May but it has now been rescheduled for Wednesday morning and Thursday morning this coming week.
 

Cedar Park Water - Update

The Ministry of Public Works is delighted to inform residents of Cedar Park that the remedial work carried on  28 April 2016 to remedy the discolored water was completed successfully. The Ministry is in the process of surveying customers in the affected area to determine its full affect. So far, 100 per cent of customers surveyed who were previously receiving brown or very brown water are now receiving clear water to their homes. Crews flushed the trunk main line after work was completed but will also flush the individual distribution branches over the next week or so.

Works Underway Today to Address Discoloured Water

Engineers and industrial staff within the Ministry of Public Works, in consultation with local industry consultants, have determined that the most efficient way to attempt to  remedy the level of discoloration in the Prospect area water is to feed the affected area by a different transmission main.  This work is being completed today, 28 April 2016, and will have a high likelihood of stopping the introduction of discoloration from the old cast iron pipes.  If this work is indeed successful, this is one major step in several necessary urgent works that must be completed to pro

Road Resurfacing to Begin on Monday

The Ministry of Public Works would like to inform motorists that a programme of short-duration road resurfacing works will take place for one week commencing on Monday 18th January at South Road, Paget, on sections between Modern Mart Supermarket and Elbow Beach. The programme will quickly target the worst sections of uneven carriageway and restore and prolong the life of the existing surface until more extensive overlay strengthening works can be undertaken.
