Public Advisory - Roads Works - February 17, 2017

The Ministry of Public Works wishes to advise the public of the following upcoming road works:

· For Saturday February 18th and Sunday February 19th, there will be a one lane traffic closure from North Shore Dock Hill to Barker's Hill Roundabout to allow for road resurfacing.

· From Monday February 20th there will be a one lane traffic closure from North Shore Glebe Road to Band Room Lane to allow for road resurfacing. Work is expected to continue for the rest of the week.

It should be noted that these works are weather dependant.

Public Reminder Regarding Incorrect Disposal of Medical Waste

The Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Health & Seniors would like to remind the public that medical waste requires special handling and disposal. This advisory comes as a notable increase of inappropriate materials being included in bags of household waste, blue recycling bags and public bus stop bins has been observed. Incorrect waste disposal presents a public health risk and can also directly injure waste collection workers and recycling centre workers.

Underwater Inspection of Docks and Bridges

Tenders are invited from experienced Contracting Companies for the above captioned project.  The work involves the underwater inspection of docks, bridges and navigational markers located in various locations in Bermuda.

Contractors submitting a tender for this work will be required to provide sufficient information to demonstrate their technical and financial capability to complete the works in accordance with the specification and contract drawings.

Rock Cut Stabilization Black Watch Pass

Tenders are invited from experienced Contracting Companies for the above captioned project.  The work involves scaling of the rock cut including the removal of loose soil, rock, and overburden from behind the crest of the slope, the slope face, benches on the slope and installing rock bolts.

Contractors submitting a tender for this work will be required to provide sufficient information to demonstrate their technical and financial capability to complete the works in accordance with the specification and contract drawings.

Workers' Safety

The Ministry of Public Works is urging local residents to consider the safety of our trash collectors when disposing of their household waste.

This call comes after 15 incidents resulting in injuries to workers were logged so far for 2016 alone, totaling 1,019 hours of lost time.

Some of the more common injuries workers experience are ergonomic injuries, such as muscle sprains, strains and tears as well as cuts from sharp objects, while some of the more serious injuries have included a herniated disk injury, shoulder dislocation, and chemical exposure to the face.

Horseshoe Bay transportation hub development in Southampton parish

Separate tenders are invited from experienced Contractors for the above captioned project. The project involves the development of a new transportation hub for the Horseshoe Bay Parking lot,
new integrated storm water management structures, new timber pedestrian boardwalk, adjustments of the parking layouts, new construction of a circular vehicular loop for drop-off zones and lighting
improvements.

Arboretum Pump station structure Public Consulation

Public Consultation 

The public is invited to view a Public Information Center (PIC) on the proposed development of a Pumping Station Structure in the Arboretum (Montpelier Park) below Fort Hill Road, Devonshire. The PIC poster presentation is available for viewing on the Government website at www.gov.bm or alternatively it may be viewed  in the reception area at the Head office of the Ministry of Public Works, 3 Floor Post office building, 56 Church Street, Hamilton HMCX.

Swing Bridge - Temporary Disruption to Marine Traffic

The Ministry of Public Works is advising that at approximately 9am on Friday 28th October, the Swing Bridge on Mullet Bay Road, St. Georges, will be temporarily closed to marine traffic in order to allow urgent repairs to the bridge as the contractor will be erecting scaffolding making it impossible for most marine traffic to pass under the bridge. However, some smaller boats will still be able to pass under the south approach span of the bridge. By mid-December 2016, most of the obstructions to marine traffic will be cleared.

Waiving of tipping fee for Marsh Folly to End Monday November 7th

The Ministry of Public Works wishes to inform the public that the tipping fee for Marsh Folly Composting Facility will resume on Monday November 7th.

The tipping fee was waived last month in the aftermath of Hurricane Nicole so that people could dispose of horticultural waste caused by the storm without being burdened financially.

At the Marsh Folly Composting Facility the cost for tipping horticultural waste is $25 per load.

Retaining wall and sidewalk construction at Happy Valley Road

Tenders are invited from experienced General Contractors for the above captioned project. The project involves all works required for the construction of a 1.4 meter high reinforced concrete block retaining wall together with a 1.2 meter wide curbed concrete on Happy Valley Road at #1 Hillsdale Avenue.

Contractors submitting a tender for this work will be required to provide sufficient information to demonstrate their technical and financial capability to complete the works in accordance with the specification and contract drawings.
