COVID-19 Update 7 August

Today there were 501 test results received by the Ministry of Health, and none were positive for COVID-19.

Bermuda has 157 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:

  • there are now 4 active cases, who are
  • all under active public health monitoring, and
  • none is hospitalized or in critical care;
  • a total of 144 have recovered,
  • the total deceased remains 9, and

The average age of all of our confirmed positive cases is 59 and the age range of all of our positive cases is from 18 to 101 years.

6 August COVID-19 Update

Good afternoon Bermuda. 

Today I'm joined by the Minister of Health, the Hon. Kim Wilson, the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Renee Ming, and the Minister of Labour, the Hon. Jason Hayward. For this evening's press conference we will start with an update from the Minister of Health Minister.

Bermuda Responds to CDC Erroneous Classification

The Government of Bermuda was made aware this evening that the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has erroneously classified Bermuda’s COVID-19 risk status as "Level 3 - High".

A Government spokesperson stated, “According to the World Health Organization, Bermuda only has Sporadic Cases. This is the lowest  WHO classification outside of No COVID-19 cases.”

Good evening Bermuda,

I wish to begin by extending my thanks to all of you for ensuring that this past Cup Match holiday weekend was as incident-free as possible.

For the most part, residents adhered to the guidelines as set out by the Ministry of Health.

While there were a few situations of note which required Police attention, overall there was broad cooperation from our community.

COVID-19 Update - 5 Aug

Financial Assistance and Supplemental Unemployment Benefit

The COVID-19 crisis continues to negatively impact both our local and world economies. Bermuda has experienced a contraction in its labour force. During the peak of the State of Emergency, roughly 9,800 individuals found themselves either unable to work, laid off or unemployed. And while many have been re-employed, about half of those individuals have not yet returned to work.

Ministry of Labour Announces New Employment Initiative

The Ministry of Labour is pleased to announce that through a collaboration with Pro-Tone Cleaning Services Ltd (PT), and Bermuda Cleaning Limited (BC), twelve Bermudians will have the opportunity to secure full-time employment over the next six months. 

This initiative will provide quantified time-structured employment opportunities for Bermudian trainees. Both PT and BC have committed to hiring one new Bermudian employee per company, per calendar month for the period July 2020 to December 2020, totalling 12 new hires.
