Coronavirus Update 20 April 2022

Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 7897 test results, and 242 were positive for the coronavirus, giving a test positivity rate of 3.0%.

These results are from testing done on:

•        Tuesday: 43 positive out of 1379 results (3.1% positivity)

•        Wednesday:  25 positive out of  1019 results (2.5% positivity)

•        Thursday: 25 positive out of 1130 results (2.2% positivity)

•        Friday: 39 positive out of 939 results (4.2% positivity)

•        Saturday: 20 positive out of 702 results (2.8% positivity)

The Fourth Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine Approved

The Ministry of Health announces that the Bermuda Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (BACIP) has approved the fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine for those who had their third dose more than five months ago.

The target groups for the fourth dose booster vaccines are persons who have immunosuppressing conditions, persons older than 65 and residents of residential care homes.

COVID-19 Update 3 March 2022

Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 4860 test results, and 73 were positive for the coronavirus, giving a test positivity rate of 1.5%.

These results are from testing done on:

§  Sunday: 9 positive out of 955 results (0.9% positivity)

§  Monday: 34 positive out of 2033 results (1.7% positivity)

§  Tuesday: 30 positive out of 1872 results (1.6% positivity)

6 of the new cases are classified as imported with a history of travel in the previous 14 days.

COVID-19 Update 28 February 2022

Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 5366 test results, and 71 were positive for the coronavirus, giving a test positivity rate of 1.3%.

These results are from testing done on:

·Wednesday:  23 positive out of 1487 results (1.5% positivity)

·Thursday: 14 positive out of 1523 results (0.9% positivity)

·Friday: 24 positive out of 1360 results (1.8% positivity)

·Saturday: 10 positive out of 996 results (1.0% positivity)

24 of the new cases are classified as imported with a history of travel in the previous 14 days.

COVID-19 Update 21 February 2022

“Sadly, Bermuda has recorded another coronavirus death since our last update,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP. “My heartfelt condolences go out to the loved ones of the deceased at this difficult time.”

Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 6642 test results, and 107 were positive for the coronavirus, giving a test positivity rate of 1.6%.

These results are from testing done on:

§  Wednesday:  39 positive out of 1590 results (2.5% positivity)

§  Thursday: 19 positive out of 1479 results (1.3% positivity)

School-Related COVID Update

MR SPEAKER,

I want to take this time today to provide updates on some COVID Related School Matters as we prepare to return to school next week Monday. Some have questioned the policies currently in place. More specifically, there has been a growing misconception that there is some disparity between Public Schools and Private Schools guidelines. This cannot be further from the truth, as the policies in place for schools apply equally to both public and private schools. Today, I will provide the necessary information to clarify some of these misconceptions hopefully.

COVID-19 Update 3 February 2022

“I am sad to report tonight that we have another coronavirus related death,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP. “I extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”

Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 4169 test results, and 128 were positive for the coronavirus, giving a test positivity rate of 3.1%.

These results are from testing done on:

§  Sunday: 29 positive out of 1184 results (2.4% positivity)

§  Monday: 57 positive out of 1575 results (3.6% positivity)

Bermuda Government's Position on Mandatory Vaccinations and Layoff Practices

Good day to all members of the media and the listening public. 

Today I would like to address a number of concerns reported to the Ministry of Labour from employees and members of the public about mandatory vaccinations within the workplace and the perceived treatment of Bermudian employees as it pertains to layoffs.

Employees, and their representatives, from various industries, have voiced concern that many employers are laying off Bermudian employees at a rate disproportionate to that of Work Permit holders.

Since the last update, the Ministry of Health received 6199 test results, and 241 were positive for the coronavirus, giving a test positivity rate of 3.9%.

These results are from testing done on:

§  Wednesday:  80 positive out of 1823 results (4.4% positivity)

§  Thursday: 66 positive out of 1767 results (3.7% positivity)

Coronavirus Briefing - Minister of Health's Remarks 27 January 2022

Good afternoon.

I begin my remarks today by reporting that since our update on Monday, Bermuda has another two COVID-19 related deaths.

I extend sincere condolences to the family and friends who recently lost a loved one in circumstances related to this coronavirus. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

This omicron variant continues to take a toll on our community. It spreads quickly and we have quite a number of active cases, primarily through community transmission.
