Ministerial Statement to the House of Assembly By The Hon. Lovitta Foggo, JP, MP, Minister of Labour, Community Affairs And Sports

Mr. Speaker, I wish to report on the role the Department of Youth Sport and Recreation has and continues to play during these challenging times for our community.

COVID-19 update Minister Wilson - 20 May

Good Afternoon,

Today there were 14 test results received by the Ministry of Health; and none were positive for COVID-19. This is not the high numbers we have become accustomed to hearing but it is only because the testing teams have been deployed to critical areas including institutional and senior populations.

Bermuda has 125 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:

Bermuda Coast Guard Rescue Polish Sailor

A Bermuda Coast Guard crew rescued a solo sailor whose boat started to take on water on the high seas.

The Polish skipper of the 36ft ketch SV Hobo Girl was towed to safety by the Coast Guard after he was spotted five nautical miles southeast of the island. The rescue was carried out last night, (Tuesday) after Bermuda Radio contacted the Coast Guard and asked the unit to investigate a vessel close to the island.

Ministry of Finance COVID-19 Update 20 May

Good afternoon.

My remarks today will cover three items: unemployment benefits update; the Economic Advisory Committee and further emergency measures that will be undertaken by the Government.

Unemployment Benefits

Last week I made a commitment that “…if you have been unemployed at the introduction of this program up through when you get re-employed, you will receive your benefit.”
