Premier Burt, Bermuda Day Message 2020

Hello Bermuda.

2020 continues to be a different and challenging year. Usually by now, spots to watch the runners and the parade have been selected and are being jealously guarded. Food is being cooked and outfits are being laid out in anticipation of the official start of the summer. 2020 is different. As a result of this Covid19 pandemic, we have been doing so many things differently, and of course Bermuda Day is no exception.

Ministry of Finance COVID-19 Update

Good afternoon. 

I am pleased to provide an update on three specific areas: the unemployment benefits; the Economic Advisory Committee; and the National Pension Scheme. 

Unemployment Benefits 

This week, I authorized unemployment benefit payments to 7,780 people, for a total of $9,210,000. We will now have paid benefits to over 9,000 people for a total cost of approximately $32 million. We expect further payments to continue on a bi-weekly schedule, which means another payment in two weeks on Friday, June 12. 

COVID19 Update

Good afternoon Bermuda! 

While Phase two is progressing, it is important that each of us are doing our part, following the rules and holding each other accountable. I am troubled to see people not wearing masks while they are not engaging in physical distancing, and businesses not adhering to the necessary protocols. 

COVID-19 UPDATE

Today there were 349 test results received by the Ministry of Health; and 3 were positive for COVID-19.

Unfortunately, today’s three positive results came from the rest home testing programme, and were all in one rest home. Public health action is underway to contain and manage the situation.

Bermuda now has 128 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:
