Hello Bermuda.

2020 continues to be a different and challenging year. Usually by now, spots to watch the runners and the parade have been selected and are being jealously guarded. Food is being cooked and outfits are being laid out in anticipation of the official start of the summer. 2020 is different. As a result of this Covid19 pandemic, we have been doing so many things differently, and of course Bermuda Day is no exception.

The Department of Public Transportation advises that the following departures have been added to the Temporary COVID-19 Bus Schedule, available at www.gov.bm/bus.

I am pleased to provide an update on three specific areas: the unemployment benefits; the Economic Advisory Committee; and the National Pension Scheme. 

Unemployment Benefits 

This week, I authorized unemployment benefit payments to 7,780 people, for a total of $9,210,000. We will now have paid benefits to over 9,000 people for a total cost of approximately $32 million. We expect further payments to continue on a bi-weekly schedule, which means another payment in two weeks on Friday, June 12.

Today 115 test results were received by the Ministry of Health; and 1 was positive for COVID-19.

Bermuda has 140 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:

Today there were 53 test results received by the Ministry of Health; and none were positive for COVID-19.

Bermuda has 139 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:

Today there were 170 test results received by the Ministry of Health; and 6 were positive for COVID-19.

While Phase two is progressing, it is important that each of us are doing our part, following the rules and holding each other accountable. I am troubled to see people not wearing masks while they are not engaging in physical distancing, and businesses not adhering to the necessary protocols.

Between Sunday and today there were 241 test results received by the Ministry of Health; and none were positive for COVID-19.

Bermuda has 133 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:

Today there were 229 test results received by the Ministry of Health; and 5 were positive for COVID-19.

Of the 5 new cases:

-2 are imported (individuals already in quarantine) 

-1 is local transmission with a known source

-2 are under investigation

Unfortunately, today’s three positive results came from the rest home testing programme, and were all in one rest home. Public health action is underway to contain and manage the situation.
