Bermuda thanks Sir David Amess for raising its voice in the wider world

Sir David Amess was hailed as ‘one of Bermuda’s biggest cheerleaders’ by its Premier, as he laid a wreath to the MP in the House of Commons.

The Southend West MP, who was killed last month, chaired the Britain-Bermuda All-Party Parliamentary Group All Party since its inception in 2015.

Bermuda’s Premier, the Hon E. David Burt, JP, MP, paid tribute to Sir David ‘for ensuring Bermuda had a voice in the UK Parliament’.

‘Sir David was a great friend to Bermuda – dedicated and hard-working – someone who did his best to raise our cause in the wider world,’ he said.

It gives me great pleasure to join you all at the National Sports Centre to honour Ms Flora Duffy - the most accomplished Bermudian athlete of our time. It’s been said that sports are considered the essence of hard work and dedication. For an athlete to get to the pinnacle of their sport, even the most gifted athletes, they have to give it their all.

The Minister, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, expressed, “As we celebrated World Alzheimer’s Month during September, I am happy to share resources for those living with dementia, and those caring for them.” 

Minister Tinee Furbert Recognises Bermuda Pride organisation

The Minister of Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, has issued a statement recognising the celebrations of Bermuda Pride, where there are celebrations of freedoms to be accepted for who you are. 

The Bermuda Pride organisation has provided education, advocacy, and leadership in support of LGBTQ+ community in Bermuda," said Minister Furbert.

Horseshoe Beach House Café - Lease Tender

Good morning, Mr. Speaker.

This morning I wish to inform this House of the new operators of the Horseshoe Bay Beach Concession.

I’d like to give some background on the process employed to get to this point.

Having reviewed the last tendering process, the existing lease, and the lessons learned, plans were put in place to ensure a far better outcome for the next lease period. 

Bermuda Weather Service Update

Bermuda Weather Service Director, Dr. Mark Guishard provided the following update:

Parts of the island are getting into the eye of Hurricane Paulette.

Paulette is still a category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 80 knots.

NHC reports that we should get into near calm conditions within the hour. This has been a remarkably accurate forecast track (recall the consistent prediction yesterday of a 6am closest point of approach right over the island).

Barometric pressure currently reads 973mb here at BWS and it is starting to bottom out.
