Hurricane Earl Evening Update

The Ministry of National Security provided the following update regarding Hurricane Earl.

As of the 6.00 p.m. update Hurricane Earl was located around 122 nautical miles south of Bermuda, moving NNE at 14 knots.

It’s anticipated that Earl’s closest point of approach within the next 72 hours will be 12.00 am Friday morning, when it’s forecast to be some 86 nautical miles ESE of Bermuda.

Landmark Launch of a Bermuda and United Nations Economic Partnership

Mr. Speaker, I am delighted to inform Honourable Members and the Public of the recent launch of a landmark partnership between the United Nations (UN) and the Government of Bermuda. The signing of the partnership agreement took place on Monday, 27th June 2022 and the Minister of Social Development and Seniors signed the agreement on behalf of the Government and its people. This is the first-ever partnership of its kind in Bermuda.

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Celebrations for Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee are currently underway.

In the UK, The Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend takes place from June 2 – 5.

Throughout the Commonwealth and the Overseas Territories there are number of events planned, and here at home, the Cabinet Office reminded of some of the activities taking place to mark this significant occasion.

Events are as follows:

Caribbean Financial Access Roundtable - “an important opportunity towards bringing better financial services to the people of Bermuda”

Premier and Minister of Finance, David Burt, returns from Barbados this evening after taking part in the Caribbean Financial Access Roundtable. The Roundtable discussed critical issues regarding correspondent banking relationships, de-risking, anti-money laundering, and related banking issues.

The EU Council of Ministers confirms Bermuda´s commitment as a fully cooperative jurisdiction

 - Bermuda reaffirms its commitment to full tax governance and transparency

Hamilton, February 24, 2022 – The Ministry of Finance of the Government of Bermuda reports that the island´s commitment to exchange information with international tax authorities, as recommended by the OECD Forum on Harmful Tax Practices (´FHTP´) in November 2021, has been noted temporarily in the State of Play document (Annex II of the conclusions of the EU Council of Ministers). The island remains a fully cooperative jurisdiction committed to full compliance.
