Statement from The Minister of Public Works - Waste Management Reminder

The Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col. the Hon. David Burch, OBE, ED, JP, MP, reminds the public of their responsibility regarding waste management.

Minister Burch said, “The general public is reminded to adhere to the normal garbage collection schedule. This includes ensuring your garbage is placed curbside before 7:30 am on your regularly scheduled collection day.  

Minister Caines - April 8 Update

This evening the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne M. Caines, JP, MP, provided an update during the daily COVID-19 press briefing.

The Minister discussed matters to do with the Joint Community Advisory Check Points, operations at the Department of Correction facilities, the Government shelter, the Government Quarantine locations and restricted guidelines regarding kite flying on Good Friday.

8 April COVID-19 Update

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen of the media.

I will give the latest test results received concerning COVID-19, reiterate the serious ramifications of not taking the Shelter in Place order seriously as a result of new modeling information which has come to the Government and provide an overview of the flights that have landed in Bermuda this week. The Minister of National Security will provide an update on items surrounding our Shelter in Place order and other specifics which are necessary to relay to members of the public.

7 April Deputy Premier's statement

Minister Wilson - COVID-19 - April 7

Good Evening,

I would like to begin by offering my sincerest condolences to the families of the two individuals who tragically became Bermuda’s first COVID-19 fatalities this week.

All of us at the Ministry of Health were truly affected by the news and can’t imagine the grief you must be feeling.

In this context, it is especially relieving to be able to report that although today there were no additional test results, the good news is that the number of recovered individuals is now 21.

Debt Collectors Reminded of Their Responsibilities Under Debt Collection Act 2018

As Bermuda responds to the challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic, exercising social and corporate responsibility is key.

The Government has kept its commitment to provide relief to eligible residents by way of an unemployment benefit, as well as other measures designed to reduce financial stress during these uncertain times.

In turn, local banks have offered relief to their customers regarding mortgage and loan rates.

Debt collectors are now asked to consider how they can better work with their clients, within the framework of existing legislation.

Ministry Shares Phone Numbers to assist with Unemployment Benefit Application processing

The Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sports the Hon. Lovitta Foggo provided a series of phone numbers to assist those who are applying for the Government's Unemployment Benefit.

Minister Foggo said, “We have received considerable feedback regarding the Unemployment Benefit. And we want this process to be as seamless and efficient as possible. We understand the financial hardships being faced by those who are unemployed as a direct result of COVID-19.
