The 2022 TechAwards Brings Back the Trailblazer Award Category

The Ministry of Economy and Labour, through the Economic Development Department (EDD), is today announcing the return of the "Innovative Trailblazer Award," a TechAwards category sponsored and presented by the Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) as part of the annual Bermuda Tech Week.

Bermuda Tech Week is held annually as a partnership between the EDD and the BDA. It comprises two main events: the Technology Education Day, held on October 31st and the Bermuda Tech Summit, held from October 26-28.

The public is invited to submit nominations for this category on www.techawards.bm, along with the four TechAwards categories announced during the launch of this year's nomination period: 'International Market Innovation', 'Local Market Innovation', 'Most Innovative Youth Project' and 'Most Innovative Mobile Application now until September 30th.

Since 2007, the TechAwards, also known as the Technology Innovation Awards, have celebrated the best Bermuda-based companies, products, and individuals making their mark in the technology industry. The Innovative Trailblazer Award will be no exception. This category recognises a Bermuda-based company that uses new technologies to conduct international business and participate in the Bermudian marketplace and uses this jurisdiction as a testing site for further technological advancements.

Notable previous winners in this category are Stan Stalnaker, Founding Director of Bermudian-based Hub Culture, and XBTO/Stablehouse.

"We are all excited to see the Innovative Trailblazer Award return sponsored and presented by the BDA," said the Minister of Economy and Labour, Jason Hayward. "We look forward to unveiling the nominations for this award, which I'm sure will include a list of innovative pioneers driving our economy forward and maintaining Bermuda’s reputation as a sophisticated and technologically advanced jurisdiction."

Nominations for this year's TechAwards are open until September 30th. All nominees will be evaluated by the TechAwards committee, comprised of leaders in the Fintech and technology industries, along with the BDA. The top contenders will be recognised during Tech Week.

BDA CEO David Hart said, "The BDA is pleased to support the TechAwards as part of Bermuda Tech Week. A keystone event of Bermuda Tech Week is also the fourth annual Bermuda Tech Summit presented by the BDA, in partnership with the EDD, on October26-28. This year, our theme celebrates Bermuda's centuries of resilience and innovation, and the Trailblazer TechAward exemplifies that enduring spirit."
