General Information Services

Ageing and Disability Services (ADS) assists with connecting seniors and persons with physical, cognitive or developmental disabilities connect with services that may support them. There are many services and organizations in Bermuda that exist to ensure that seniors rights are protected and their quality of life maintained. 

The following is a list of available services and resources for seniors in Bermuda:

Age Concern

Age Concern is a Bermudian advocate group directed at linking seniors to the necessary resources.  For more information, visit their website or call (441) 238-7525.

Bus service for seniors

Bermuda’s Project Action offers free bus service for seniors in private and government-run homes. Also has a specially-equipped (for wheelchair and ambulatory disabled) bus, as a service to seniors and disabled - residents only, not visitors.

Residential Care Homes

All residential care homes and nursing homes must be registered with the Chief Medical Officer through Ageing and Disability Services. The  

lists all registered care homes and their current registration status.

The Ministry of Health offers government-owned elder care facilities such as the Sylvia Richardson Care Facility and the Lefroy House Care Community.

Lefroy House Care Community

Lefroy House provides residential, personal, nursing day care services to successfully placed elders in a home environment. The care community offers the following programmes and services: 

  • 24-hour personal and nursing care 
  • physician, nutritionist, pharmacy, dental, physiotherapy, occupational, and speech therapy 
  • chiropody 
  • recreation 
  • adult day care 
  • laundry

Sylvia Richardson Care Facility 

The Sylvia Richardson Care Facility provides residential, nursing, and day care to seniors. Residents range from independent to semi-dependent. Residents receive:

  • recreational, pharmaceutical, and physician services

Finances and seniors

The Department of Financial Assistance is the arm of the Government of Bermuda that assesses the Financial needs for Bermudians and allocated grant monies to a variety of organizations.

Health and wellness clinics for seniors

Senior health and wellness clinics provide seniors with services that promote healthy behaviours and lifestyles that help to maintain and to improve health, quality of life and independence. They provide blood pressure screening and monitoring, blood sugar screening, nutrition assessment and counselling, home safety and functional assessments of activities for daily living, adult immunizations, and prevention guidance in the areas of aging, safety, medication, falls and chronic illnesses.

Health insurance for seniors

FutureCare is an affordable health insurance plan designed specifically for Bermuda's seniors. All full-time residents of Bermuda over the age of 65 are eligible to enroll in FutureCare.

Home resource aids

Government home resource aids provide personal care to the elderly, and the physically and mentally challenged in their homes. They work closely with Health Visitors and District nurses.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels supplies nourishing lunchtime cooked meals 4 days a week for persons who for reasons of health cannot prepare meals for themselves, whether on release from hospital or on a longer term.

Social events for seniors

The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs annually hosts several social events for Bermuda’s senior citizens including the Annual Seniors Cruise, Seniors Picnic, Jazz Concert in the Park, and the Seniors Award Ceremony. 

Every year the Department also produces the Seniors Biography Booklet which highlights many seniors including those elders in our community who have achieved the distinction of being centenarians. 

The Department also holds a series of lunchtime seminars on topics of interest to Seniors. These Seminars occur monthly from October to April.
