Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF)

The Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Walter H. Roban, JP, MP was invited to attend the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) on behalf of the Government of Bermuda.

The CREF was held in Miami Florida from 16 -18 October 2019 with over 25 Caribbean countries being represented by their Government or Utility.

In addition to the many speakers, other energy events were attended such as networking receptions, workshops, and two full days of programming. 

Annual Space & Satellite Advisory Group Meeting

The Hon. Walter H. Roban, JP, MP, Minister of Home Affairs, travelled to Washington DC to promote Bermuda's space and satellite-related offerings.

As Bermuda has a keen interest in the space and satellite industries, meetings and tours were held to establish new connections with space and industry stakeholders and also reinforce existing connections.

 

C24: Caribbean Regional Seminar

The United Nations Special Comittee organized the Caribbean regional seminar on the "Implementation of the Third International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism: accelerating decolonization through renewed commitment and pragmatic measures".

Representatives of the administering Powers and other concerned Member States, Non-Self Governing Territories, governments, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as select experts were invited to participate in the seminar.

Meetings with US Congressional Representatives

The Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs, the Hon. Walter Roban, JP, MP, accompanied the Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP to attend several high level meetings with a focus on energy, finance, economics and air service development.

Joint Ministerial Council on European Negotiations

The Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs represented Bermuda in meetings with Britian and the Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council. While in London, the Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs also attended a pre-JMC meeting chaired by the Falkland Islands and hosted by the UK Overseas Territories Association. He and Kimberly Durrant, Bermuda's London Office Director, met with Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, the UK's Minister of State for the Commonwealth and the United Nations. 

Posidonia 2018

The Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs attended the Posidonia 2018 BDA Reception on 31st May in Athens, Greece. The Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs spoke about the advantages of Bermuda, not just in respect of the shipping registry, but also as a locale to do business.

34th Space Symposium, Colorado Springs, CO

The Deputy Premier and Minsiter of Transport and Regulatory Affairs attended the 34th Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado and was invited to participate on a panel entitled Emerging Space Economies to promote Bermuda as a space-savvy jurisdiction. The Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs also connected with others in the industry to highlight the island's space and satellite-related offerings. He was accompanied by Permanent Secretary, Aideen Ratteray Pryse.

Executive Education and Space and Satellite Industry Meetings

The Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs attended Harvard Kennedy School, Executive Education “Recovering the Public in Public Value.” Minister Roban was then accompanied by Aideen Ratteray Pryse, Permanent Secretary (Acting) to attend stakeholder meetings with several Space and Satellite entities.

London International Shipping Week 2017

The Minister of Transport and Regulatory Affairs attended the London International Shipping Week 2017 and Capital Link Forum. Minister Roban was accompanied by Aideen Ratteray Pryse (Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Regulatory Affairs). While in the UK, Minister Roban met with representatives of the Department of Transportation regarding road safety measures, Transport for London regarding travel products, and Access Partnerships regarding satellite and space industry matters.
