COVID-19 Update - Minister of Health's Remarks 6 May 2021

Thank you, Premier. Good afternoon everyone.

I begin my remarks today by offering my sincere condolences to all of the families who have sadly lost loved ones recently in circumstances related to the coronavirus.

While our surge in positive coronavirus cases has slowed down, it is not all good news; we have had a particularly rough April, many people were seriously ill and several died. The families of the sick and the deceased and their loved ones remain in our thoughts and prayers.

COVID-19 Daily Release 5 May 2021

The Ministry of Health received 1014 test results since the last update, and two (2) were positive for COVID-19, yielding a test positivity rate of 0.2%.

Both of the new cases are classified as local transmission with known contact as they are associated with known cases.

Additionally, since the last update, there were 36 recoveries and no deaths.

There are 383 active cases, of which:

·         369 are under public health monitoring and

The Ministry of Health received 447 test results since the last update, and five (5) were positive for COVID-19, yielding a test positivity rate of 1.1%.

All five (5) of the new cases are classified as local transmission with known contact as they are associated with known cases.

Additionally, since the last update, there were 14 recoveries and no deaths.

There are 417 active cases, of which:

“I am sorry to report that another Bermudian has died from a Covid-related illness,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to their family and loved ones.”

The Ministry of Health received 2855 test results since the last update, and 29 were positive for COVID-19, yielding a test positivity rate of 1.0. These results are from testing done on Thursday (15 positive out of 1087 results (1.4% positivity)), Friday (8 positive out of 857 results (0.9% positivity)) and Saturday (6 positive out of 911 results (0.7% positivity)).

COVID-19 Update 1 May 2021

The Minister of Health, the Hon. Kim Wilson, JP, MP today, advised that Bermuda has experienced another COVID-19 related death today. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Bermuda to 29.

“I am deeply saddened to report another COVID-19 related death. I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and friends. They are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

“Sadly, we have one more COVID related death to report today,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP. “My sincere condolences to their family and loved ones.”

The Ministry of Health received 777 test results since the last update, and 11 were positive for coronavirus, yielding a test positivity rate of 1.4%.

Four of the new cases are classified as local transmission with known contact as they are associated with known cases.

COVID-19 Daily Release 29 April 2021

Today, I am sad to report three COVID related deaths,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP. “My heartfelt sympathy goes out to their family and loved ones.”

“Reporting one death is sad, but reporting three deaths at one time is truly upsetting and a disturbing reminder of how serious the coronavirus is.”

The Ministry of Health received 1274 test results since the last update, and eight (8) were positive for coronavirus, yielding a test positivity rate of 0.6 %. 

COVID-19 Daily Release 28 April 2021

The Ministry of Health received 1260 test results since the last update, and 12 were positive for coronavirus, yielding a test positivity rate of 1.0 %.

Seven of the new cases are classified as local transmission with known contact as they are associated with known cases.

The additional five new cases are classified as under investigation. These cases are among residents with no currently identified link to other known cases or history of travel in the past 14 days.

Additionally, since the last update, there were 31 recoveries and no deaths.

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Financial Assistance

The COVID-19 Pandemic continues to negatively impact government resources and those most in need of assistance.  As a reminder, the Department of Financial Assistance provides services “to assist vulnerable Bermudians with maintaining a minimum standard of living during challenging economic times”.
