Types of work permits

To work in Bermuda, you must be Bermudian, married to a Bermudian, or be a Permanent Resident’s Certificate (PRC) holder. If you are not you must have a valid work permit.

There are various types of work permits depending on the type of work and the length of time the person will be working in Bermuda.

Requirements for extending the term of a work permit holder

If an employer intends to continue to employ a work permit holder in the same job beyond the expiry date of the current work permit, they must apply for a new permit.

The same process that was followed to obtain the original permit must be followed again. Applications should be submitted no less than one month and no more than three months before the current work permit expires.

How to get a work permit

If you hire a worker who is not a Bermudian or married to one, or someone who is not a Permanent Resident’s Certificate (PRC) holder, they will need a work permit to work in Bermuda.

Requirements

Only an employer can apply for a work permit.  The employee can only enter the country to work after receiving permission. You cannot seek employment while visiting as a tourist.
