The Department of Culture invites you to the February Bermudian Heartbeats Lecture Series event, "More Than 'Just' Sports: Central Social Clubs," on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 6:00 PM, at Vasco da Gama.
Join us for an insightful exploration of Bermuda’s Central Social Clubs and share your stories and memories of these clubs. Featuring speakers from the Devonshire Recreation Club, The Leopards Club, The Young Men's Social Club, The Queen's Club, The Ex Artillery Men's Association, Vasco da Gama, and others, discover their historical significance and evolving roles in our community.
This is the second part in a three-part series highlighting the importance of social clubs to Bermuda. Last year the Department hosted a panel discussion on the Western social clubs which can be viewed on the Department's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2dj2Xw_3zc
The discussion will be guided by facilitator Rajai Denbrook and informed by Frank Manning’s seminal 1973 book "Black Clubs in Bermuda: Ethnography of a Play World'.
