Agricultural Team recognised in PSEA

Recently (Feb. 11), Premier David Burt and the Head of the Public Service, Dr. Derrick Binns recognized the January recipients of the Public Service Excellence Award (PSEA) – Mr. Thomas Sinclair and Mr. Maxwell Dill, members of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) section.

The PSEA is a programme that aims to encourage outstanding achievement and recognize Public Officers who are demonstrating admirable service delivery. Each month an individual or team will be selected for exemplary public service accomplished in the last 60 days.

The Agronomy Team operates an Agriculture Services Centre, which provides ongoing support for the local agriculture industry.

Mr. Sinclair, Agriculture Officer and Mr. Dill, Porter, have managed the increased workload providing exemplary service supporting local farming.  Their efforts have contributed directly to improving Bermuda's food security during what can only be described as challenging times.

Their work includes registering farmers, maintaining the produce embargo system, keeping inventory of seeds, and other items for sale to registered farmers and fishermen, and providing cold storage for local produce. As part of their extension services, the team will also visit farm sites to provide technical advice to farmers and beekeepers, and assist with feral bee management and feral bird control.

Premier Burt, who visited the Agronomy Team at their site last Friday said, “It was a pleasure to visit the Agriculture Services Centre today to experience first-hand the commitment, dedication and enthusiasm of this small but talented team. The officers openly shared their knowledge and demonstrated how the facility is used to support local farming. I’m pleased to know that we have skilled resources we can rely upon as we seek to evolve this sector through the use of technology.”

Head of the Public Service, Dr. Derrick Binns said, “Despite many challenges ranging from ageing equipment to natural disasters, Mr. Dill and Mr. Sinclair have made it their priority to maintain the smooth functioning of this essential service to the community. On behalf of the Public Service Executive and myself, congratulations to both of you on your well-deserved recognition! We are proud to have such attentive officers working together for the public good.”
