You must apply for a Customs Automated Processing System (CAPS) ID Number if you are:
- an importer or exporter
- claiming duty relief
- submitting an electronic declaration
- importing or exporting goods in a consolidated shipment
- importing or exporting prohibited or restricted goods, cash or negotiable instruments
If you are a minor (less than 18 years of age) your CAPS ID application must be made by your parent or legal guardian. They must have a CAPS ID Number of their own.
Your CAPS ID Number is unique to you and you should quote it on any documents presented to the Customs Department.

You can apply by submitting the application form electronically. You will be required to upload a valid form of government issued identification and any other required documents.
