Apply for a CAPS ID number

You must apply for a Customs Automated Processing System (CAPS) ID Number if you are:

  • an importer or exporter
  • claiming duty relief
  • submitting an electronic declaration
  • importing or exporting goods in a consolidated shipment
  • importing or exporting prohibited or restricted goods, cash or negotiable instruments

If you are a minor (less than 18 years of age) your CAPS ID application must be made by your parent or legal guardian. They must have a CAPS ID Number of their own.

Your CAPS ID Number is unique to you and you should quote it on any documents presented to the Customs Department.
