Registration is Now Open for Grow, Eat, $ave Programme

The Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the Ministry of Home Affairs, is pleased to invite residents to register for Grow, Eat, $ave, a free nine-week programme that teaches participants practical skills to grow their own food, make healthier food choices, and save money.

The second programme in the 2026 series, Grow. Eat. $ave will run from Thursday, 24 September to Thursday, 19 November, and is facilitated by Chaplain Kevin Santucci with support from dedicated volunteer Team Leaders.

Through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Home Affairs, two cohorts will be offered, along with additional garden spaces. These spaces include both in‑ground and above‑ground beds, designed with careful attention to accessibility needs.

Acting Minister of Health Jason Hayward, JP, MP, stated, “Grow, Eat, $ave is about making healthy living practical and accessible for individuals and families. Growing your own food encourages people to incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables into their diets, develop a greater understanding of nutrition, and build healthy habits that can support long-term wellbeing. By giving residents the knowledge and confidence to grow and prepare fresh food at home, this programme promotes healthier choices and reflects our vision of Healthy People in Healthy Communities.”

Participants will take part in six joint educational gardening classes and three practical, hands-on sessions designed to build confidence and real-world skills. They will gain beginner-friendly experience in soil preparation, seed planting, composting, natural pest remedies, and other techniques that support successful home gardening. The programme also creates opportunities for community members to share knowledge, learn from one another, and strengthen their ability to grow fresh, healthy food at home.

Minister of Home Affairs Alexa Lightbourne, JP, MP, said, “Food security begins with empowering our people. When we give residents the knowledge and practical tools to grow even a portion of the food they consume, we strengthen household resilience, build community capacity and help families take greater control of their food costs. We know that the cost of groceries remains a real concern for families across Bermuda, and while there is no single solution to that challenge, Grow, Eat, $ave is one practical way we can equip people to be part of the solution. The programme brings together affordability, sustainability and community, with neighbours learning alongside one another and taking skills home that can continue to benefit their families long after the programme ends.”

The Grow, Eat, $ave Programme forms part of the Government’s broader commitment to encourage healthier lifestyles, improve food security, reduce pressure on household budgets and strengthen Bermuda’s resilience through practical community education.

Spaces are limited, and residents are encouraged to register early by signing up [Grow%20Eat%20$ave%20Registration%20(September%20to%20November)%20%20–%20Fill%20out%20form]here. You can also call 246 8404 or 444 1708.
