The Department of Health is encouraging families, caregivers, and community members to join us for the Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2026 community event, Rooted in Support, taking place tomorrow, Saturday, August 8, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Victoria Park, Hamilton.
This free, family‑friendly gathering will offer educational mini‑sessions, wellness activities, vendor engagement, and opportunities to connect with breastfeeding support services. Attendees can also take part in the used breast pump donation drive, with accepted items including Spectra pumps, Medela Symphony pumps, manual pumps (such as Haakaa), flanges, and collection bottles. (Many pumps, including most wearable models, are single‑user only and cannot be accepted.)
Event highlights include:
- Mini informational sessions for Moms to Grandmothers and Dads Supporting Moms
- A free movement class — please bring your mats
- Informational and retail vendors
- Music by DJ Cmdty
- Participation from Natural Mystic Hub
- Lots of giveaways for attendees
“Breastfeeding is one of the most meaningful investments we can make in the health and wellbeing of our children, and no parent should feel they are navigating that journey alone,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP. “Whether you are a new parent, a grandparent, a supporter, or simply someone who cares about the wellbeing of our families, you are welcome. When we show up for one another, we strengthen the foundation of health for generations to come.”
