Premier David Burt hosted the Annual Cup Match Reception at Pier 6, last evening, welcoming the Somerset and St. George’s Cup Match teams, coaches, club officials, and invited guests ahead of this year’s Cup Match Classic.
The annual reception brings together both clubs before the two-day cricket match, recognising a tradition that has long been part of Bermuda’s observance of Emancipation Day and Mary Prince Day. It also provides an opportunity for players, officials, and supporters to meet ahead of one of the island's most anticipated sporting events.
Joined by his family, Premier Burt congratulated both teams and wished them well as they prepare for this year’s match. He thanked the players, coaches, club officials, volunteers, and supporters whose commitment continues to sustain one of Bermuda's longest-standing sporting traditions.
The Premier said, “Each year, Cup Match brings Bermudians together to honour our history while celebrating the talent of the players who represent Somerset and St. George’s. I wish both teams every success and thank everyone whose hard work continues to make this tradition possible.”
Among those attending were Somerset Cricket Club President Richard Scott, St. George’s Cricket Club Vice President, Kyle Denbrook, Somerset Captain, Terryn Fray, St. George's Captain, Sinclair Smith Jr., Members of Cabinet & the Legislature, former Cup Match players and club officials.
