The Government of Bermuda welcomed the official opening of the newly redeveloped Palmetto Beach Club, marking a significant milestone in the return of the Fairmont Southampton.
The opening was attended by the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, Premier and Minister of Finance; Senator the Hon. Kim Wilkerson, JP, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice; the Hon. Diallo Rabain, JP, MP, Minister of Education; the Hon. Jason Hayward, JP, MP, Minister of Economy and Labour; the Hon. Jaché Adams, JP, MP, Minister of Public Works and Environment; and the Hon. Rev. Dr Emily-Gail Dill, JP, Minister of the Cabinet Office.
They joined representatives of Gencom, Accor, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the Bermuda Tourism Authority and other stakeholders from Bermuda’s tourism, aviation and business sectors.
Palmetto Beach Club is the first completed guest experience within the wider redevelopment. The facility features an oceanfront infinity pool, private cabanas, dedicated beach service, an event lawn and 'The Grill’ beachfront restaurant.
Premier Burt said, “Today, Bermudians can see and experience the progress being made at the Fairmont Southampton. This milestone is about restoring an iconic property, creating opportunities for Bermudians and strengthening Bermuda’s tourism industry.”
The opening provides tangible evidence of the progress being made towards the full return of the iconic resort. Bermudians are already employed at the property, including in managerial positions, with further recruitment expected as additional areas reopen.
The full reopening of the Fairmont Southampton will restore 593 redesigned guestrooms and suites, support local businesses and strengthen Bermuda’s ability to attract additional visitors, group travel and air service.
