Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2026 brought together families, healthcare professionals, and community partners for a full programme of activities designed to celebrate breastfeeding and strengthen support for parents across Bermuda. Throughout the week, the Bermuda National Breastfeeding Committee and the Department of Health delivered a series of educational, creative, and community‑building events.

On Tuesday, 5 August, the Committee hosted a documentary screening exploring the lived experiences of breastfeeding mothers and the importance of culturally informed support systems. The screening prompted meaningful discussion among attendees and set the tone for a week focused on empathy, education, and shared understanding.

On Wednesday, 6 August, participants gathered for a fully attended Art of Hand Expression class, where mothers learned practical techniques for hand expression in a supportive, hands‑on environment. The session blended skill‑building with community connection, offering parents a safe space to ask questions and practice new methods with guidance from trained professionals.

On Thursday, 7 August, Minister of Health Kim Wilson, JP, MP, attended and spoke at the panel discussion, “One Size Does Not Fit All.” The event featured mothers, nurses, and pediatric experts sharing real experiences and practical insights. In her remarks, Minister Wilson emphasized that every breastfeeding journey is unique and that families deserve compassionate, evidence‑based support at every stage.

The week concluded on Saturday, 9 August, with the community event, “Rooted in Support,” held at Victoria Park. Minister Wilson joined families, volunteers, and healthcare teams for a morning of movement activities, engagement stations, and opportunities for parents to connect with lactation support services. Addressing attendees, she underscored the importance of building sustainable, community‑wide systems that uplift mothers and promote infant health.

“Breastfeeding is one of the most meaningful investments we can make in the health and wellbeing of our children, and no parent should feel they are navigating that journey alone,” said Minister Wilson. “This week reminds us that when we show up for one another, we strengthen the foundation of health for generations to come.”

The Ministry extends its appreciation to the Bermuda National Breastfeeding Committee, the Department of Health, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and the families who participated throughout the week. Their dedication continues to shape a supportive environment where every mother feels informed, encouraged, and empowered.
