The Premier of Bermuda, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, attended the CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting held in Trinidad and Tobago from 1 July-7 July.

This annual meeting coincided with the 50th anniversary of CARICOM's establishment and Bermuda's 20th anniversary of joining the community. The Premier's participation in the conference aimed to engage with regional leaders and heads of government, fostering relationships and discussing critical regional issues on behalf of Bermuda.

The State Funeral for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

The Premier, the Hon. E. David Burt JP, MP, was invited by the UK Government to attend the State Funeral of  Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.

 

The Premier was accompanied by the Government of Bermuda Representative to the UK, Ms Kimberley Durrant, for the Lying-in-State on 17 September at Westminster Hall.

 

On 18 September, the Premier attended His Majesty the King’s Reception at Buckingham Palace.

 

UK Meetings: UK Government and Labour officials and Industry Stakeholders

The Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. E. David Burt, JP. MP., led a delegation of the Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) and the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR), including BDA Chair,  Stephen Weinstein, BDA Chief Executive Officer, David Hart, and ABIR Chief Executive Officer, John Huff, to the United Kingdom for meetings with UK Government officials and members of the UK Labour Party, and key industry stakeholders.  The Acting Financial Secretary, Cheryl-Ann Lister, accompanied the Premier. 

Caribbean Financial Access Roundtable

The Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. E. David Burt, JP. MP. attended a Caribbean Financial Roundtable discussion in Bridgetown, Barbados, following a personal invitation from the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Mia Mottley, QC. MP.   The Rountable discussion was jointly hosted by the Government of Barbados and the Chair of the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, the Hon.

Consensus 2022

The Premier & Minister of Finance the Hon. E. David Burt led a delegation of the Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) and the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) including CEO of the BDA David Hart; Assistant Director of Fintech for the BMA, Aqsa Zubair; and Senior Fintech Advisor for the BMA, Moad Fahmi.

 

RIMS Riskworld 2022

The Premier & Minister of Finance travelled to San Francisco, California for the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) annual conference ‘RISKWORLD’. RIMS is the largest community dedicated to advancing risk management, and RISKWORLD was the first in-person conference since 2019. Bermuda has sent a delegation to this important annual conference for over 35 years.

 

Crypto Finance Conference

Premier David Burt travelled to Switzerland following an invitation to attend the Crypto Finance Conference to further promote Bermuda’s digital asset business sector.

 

The Future of Finance Summit - Understanding Bitcoin & Cryptocurrencies

Premier was invited to speak at a Future of Finance Summit event hosted in Chicago. The invitation followed the Premier meeting African-American leaders in Blockchain at the 2021 Satoshi Roundtable. Hotel, accommodation and ground transportation were covered by the conference hosts.

Joint Ministerial Council and European Union

UKOTA Meeting

This year the Premier acted in capacity as President of the Political Council within United Kingdom Overseas Territories Association and chaired the meeting of the Political Council where Overseas Territories Leaders discussed the issues that would be raised with the U.K Government and the Joint Ministerial Council the following day

Satoshi Roundtable

The Satoshi Roundtable is an invite-only event that has been running annually since 2014 to which the Premier received a personal invitation as recognition for Bermuda’s leadership in the fintech space.  It attracts leading thinkers, influencers and builders in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. 

 

The Premier attended this exclusive event with the then Deputy CEO of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, Craig Swan.
