The Bermuda Business Development Agency [BDA] co-hosted a special live media event at Bloomberg headquarters in New York City, convening senior US business leaders for in-depth panel discussions on issues important to the Bermuda market.
Finance Minister Bob Richards and the Minister of Economic Development Dr Grant Gibbons also attended, along with senior representatives from Bermuda’s international business sector.
The Minister attended the annual RIMS (Risk Management Society) Conference in Philadelphia to support the Bermuda Business Development Agency schedule of events, meet with Bermuda insurance clients; and to participate in media briefing sessions.
The Minister met with the Administrator of the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA), General Charles Bolden; the Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Dr. Willie May; the Chief of the International Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Ms. Mindel De La Torre; and executives from several prospective and Bermuda satellite companies.
General Bolden and the Minister discussed the History of NASA in Bermuda, NASA's current mobile and fixed tracking facilities and the Agency programmes open to Bermudians.
The Minister led a delegation to New York City to showcase recent developments in Bermuda's asset management sector. Attendees at the event included New York-area asset managers, corporate legal advisers and other fund-service professionals who were particularly interested in Bermuda's new Limited Liability Company (LLC) legal structure.
The Minister led the Bermuda delegation to the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series event in Toulon, France. The Minister met with the Mayor of Toulon and discussed the economic and tourism benefits that Hamilton and Toulon had each experienced from hosting their respective events. The Minister also held discussions with prospective investors, and international business and tourism prospects.
The Minister led the Bermuda Team including the Government America’s Cup liaison officer and representatives from ACBDA Ltd. to the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series event in Chicago. The Bermuda team had the opportunity to participate in the operational, logistical and security aspects of the event which provided valuable experience in the running of the event as well as insight into their volunteer programs.
The Minister accompanied the Premier and other Bermuda representatives to the America's Cup Louis Vuitton World Series event in New York City to showcase Bermuda's readiness to host the America's Cup Finals in 2017. The Minister presented the winning team's medals before the Premier presented the winner's trophy.
The Minister accompanied the Premier and the Minister of Finance to the annual RIMS conference in San Diego to showcase the benefits and value of Bermuda to the global insurance sector.
