Government Launches LED Stimulus Package

Through the Department of Energy, the Ministry of Home Affairs is pleased to launch the new LED initiative, announced in July 2022 as part of the $15,000,000 stimulus package.

 The distribution of 150,000 LED light bulbs will begin with the most vulnerable: seniors and low-incomehouseholds. Following this initial distribution, LED light bulb packages will be made available for those individuals who are not seniors or in the lower income bracket but still want to lower their energy costs.

Mr. Speaker, it gives me great pleasure to announce the commencement of the new LED initiative, with which this Government is giving back in quite a literal sense to the people of Bermuda. In July 2022, the Government announced the LED initiative as part of the $15,000,000 stimulus package, and now, we are delivering.

Encouraging the Adoption of Solar Energy and Energy Efficiency

Good day to all members of the media and the listening public. 

Many of you will recall the work by this Government over the last decade to advance the country’s transition toward greater use of renewable energy. 

The Energy White Paper of 2011 and the Integrated Resource Plan have proved to be practical tools throughout this journey. 

Bermuda’s sustainability and renewable energy strategy have us positioned to become a regional leader in this arena. 

LED Exchange Initiative to Launch May 1

At a press conference today, the Minister of Home Affairs the Hon. Walter Roban JP MP announced the details of the Department of Energy’s LED exchange initiative. Minister Roban's remarks are as follows:

"Starting on May 1 and running as long as supplies last, members of the public will be able to bring one incandescent bulb to participating retailers and exchange it for one efficient, clean and cool LED bulb, free of charge.  Government has committed sufficient resources to allow about 30% of all households to take up this initiative.
