Premier Responds to 2018 Bermuda Business Confidence Index

Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, today commented on the 2018 Bermuda Business Confidence Index which was released last week.

Premier Burt stated, “The report highlights economic and external factors impacting Bermuda businesses and the confidence in Bermuda’s business environment. This is one snapshot in time and provides an opportunity for Government and business to work together to continue to strengthen our economy.

Premier Burt in New York for meetings and Concordia Summit

Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, traveled to New York City yesterday afternoon where he held a series of meetings and participated in two events at the Annual Concordia Summit.

On Monday afternoon, 24 September, Premier Burt was interviewed in a 'fireside chat' by Mercina Tillemann-Dick, Chief Operating Officer of the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC). The Premier discussed Bermuda’s fast-paced progress to create world-leading FinTech regulation. 

New Registrar of Companies

The Ministry of Finance is pleased to announce that the new Registrar of Companies is Ken Joaquin CMA, a former Accountant General with the Ministry of Finance and former Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health & Family Services.

With experience in both the public and private sector in Bermuda at the executive level for more than 15 years across diverse sectors of the Bermuda economy, Mr. Joaquin has most recently worked as an independent financial consultant in Canada, servicing international clients.

Premier attending Washington DC for meetings

Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, is travelling to Washington, DC today to conduct a series of high level meetings with US Congressional representatives.

The Premier, who is accompanied to Washington DC by the Deputy Premier, the Hon. Walter Roban, JP, MP, will keep a busy schedule of meetings that will have a focus on energy, finance, economics and air service development.

Financial Policy Council

This week, the Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, welcomed Dr. DeLisle Worrell, past Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados to Bermuda.

Dr. Worrell is on-island to meet with the members of the Bermuda Financial Policy Council. The public will recall that Dr. Worrell was recently appointed to the council, which was created to advise on the development of Bermuda’s financial stability framework. Today’s meeting would be Dr. Worrell’s first with the council.

Premier unveils new Fintech opportunity

Bermuda’s development of a Fintech industry continues at a dizzying pace with the Premier of Bermuda and Minister of Finance, the Hon. E. David Burt JP MP today signing another Memorandum of Understanding - this time establishing a strategic partnership with interests from the Republic of Korea.

The signing came during a press conference at the Cabinet Office.

The non-binding MOU brings the promise of educational, cross-cultural exchange and social initiatives to benefit the drive toward economic diversification.
