Supporting Sports Development

“Sports play a critical role in our community and the Ministry will continue to do our part to support Bermuda’s National Sports Governing Bodies as they continue to help our athletes here at home and abroad. I look forward to setting out the extent of the Government’s support during the Senate Budget debate, which starts today,” said the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport and Government Senate Leader, Owen Darrell, JP.

The Minister also noted that annually there is an open call for those seeking grants and funding. National Sports Governing Bodies (NSGB) are engaged by the Ministry and invited to apply for investment grants from the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation. The grant application process is in alignment with the guidelines outlined in the National Sports Policy. This year, NSGBs were encouraged to apply for grants in such categories as Coach Education/Development, Junior Programming/Development, High Performance.

Minister Darrell concluded, “The Department is committed to facilitating athlete growth and development and the funding for these efforts is allocated to those NSGBs who respond to the call to apply. The Department is proud to support Bermuda’s athletes across a wide spectrum of disciplines in which young men and women can develop their sporting potential in Bermuda and internationally.”
