The Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Senator The Hon. Kathy Lynn Simmons, JP and the Minister for Public Works, Lt. Col. The Hon. David A. Burch, JP, MP have today extended their appreciation to the community volunteers, the Royal Bermuda Regiment, Mirrors and Department of Parks staff that gave their time to clean-up the Southlands property in Warwick on Saturday, 29 June. The event was the first of five community clean-ups planned for the summer and fall.
Kathy Lynn Simmons, the Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs said, “We appreciate the many volunteers for supporting this joint initiative. The focus of our community coming together to preserve the park demonstrates community building and is something that Mirrors promotes. We are always encouraging our young people to get involved in community outreach programmes that benefit our island.” She further stated, “This spirit of cooperation will go a long way to affect society as a whole.”
Lt. Col. the Hon. David A. Burch, OBE (Mil), ED, JP, MP, said, “I am pleased to see the success of the two departments, the Regiment and members of the community working together. The teams had a laser focus on Saturday as they removed debris, pulled invasive vines and trees to preserve our ecological heritage”. He added, “The Acting Parks Director, Mr. Craig Burt, used the opportunity to train two volunteers on the use of chain saw as they plan to attend all five of the scheduled events”.
