Tomorrow (July 13), the Minister of Community Affairs and Sports, the Hon. Lovitta Foggo is inviting members of the public to tune in and watch Tyler Butterfield and Jessica Lewis receive their 2019 Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards on CITV, the Government television station.
The public should note that due to COVID-19, a special pre-taped presentation of the 39th Annual Sports Awards, took place recently at the Berkeley Cafetorium. Both the Premier, the Hon. David Burt and Minister Foggo were on hand to present the 2019 awards to Bermuda’s outstanding athletes, which included Female Athlete of the Year, Female Junior Athlete of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, Male Junior Athlete of the Year and more.
The event, which was in keeping with the Ministry of Health’s guidelines, will air daily on CITV from July 13 - July 19, at 12 noon and 9.30 pm.
The theme of this year’s Ceremony was, “United Through Sports.”
During the presentation, Minister Foggo said, “As you can see we are hosting this year's event slightly different than in previous years. But we are united in recognising the amazing achievements of all our athletes. You see, this year faced with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we've had to re-evaluate how we gather to celebrate our successes and achievements.
“I’m pleased to note that we were able to come up with the concept of pre-filming the 2019 Sports Awards for all to see. This also fulfills our commitment of honouring those sports stars who have accomplished their highest goals in the past year.
“So on this occasion, we are delighted to join together to celebrate our sports stars. We celebrate your commitment, your dedication and your sporting contribution to Bermuda. I know at times it may seem like your hard work goes unnoticed. But this is a testament that you are seen and you are appreciated and we felt obligated to gather together in the spirit of sportsmanship to thank you. I extend a huge congratulations to each of our 2019 sports awardees, and it is my honour to salute you all.”
