Premier - Pre-Joint Ministerial Council Meeting

The Cabinet Office advised today that the Premier, the Hon. Michael Dunkley, JP, MP, will be in the Turks and Caicos Islands this week for the UK Overseas Territories (OT) Heads of Government Pre-Joint Ministerial Council Meeting.

Held annually, this week's meeting takes place from July 20 - 21. The meetings are being hosted by Dr. the Hon. Rufus Ewing, Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

A specific area of discussion for the meeting will centre around the British referendum, its exit from the European Union and its effect on the overseas territories. Also at this week’s meeting, Premier Dunkley will lead a panel discussion  on topics that include sustainable economic development, opportunities and challenges for small economies and infrastructure development.

The Turks and Caicos meetings are a precursor to the upcoming Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council meetings which will be hosted by the UK Government in October.

The Premier, who returns to the Island on Friday, will be accompanied by the Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. Derrick Binns and Kimberley Durrant, UK Representative and Director of the London Office.
