Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport to Attend 10th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting in London

The Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport, Senator Owen K. Darrell, JP, will be attending the 10th Commonwealth Youth Ministers meeting in London, from September 11 - 15, 2023.

The Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting is held every four years and is a forum that addresses youth policy for Commonwealth member states.

This year, 2023, marks 50 years since the establishment of the Commonwealth Youth Programme in 1973.

Minister Darrell said, "I'm extremely proud to be representing Bermuda at this global forum. This meeting will bring together Youth Ministers, senior government officials, youth representatives, youth workers and other stakeholders from across the Commonwealth to discuss this year’s theme: ‘Aim Higher: Delivering More for Young People in the Commonwealth’.

"This will provide us with a great opportunity to share the critical and foundational work that the Bermuda Government is doing with our young people in the areas of employment, training and development, education and scholarship support, and entrepreneurship. It's also a chance to highlight our National Youth Policy for the first time with our global counterparts. So, we are looking forward to the engagement that will take place this week.”

Also at the Commonwealth Summit, the attending young people will be challenged to examine education, employment and the environment to gain a youth development perspective.

As an added note, the Bermuda Government's London Office will also be hosting a networking session on Friday, September 15, so that the Minister can interact with Bermudians, under the age of 30, living and working in the UK.

During this UK visit, Minister Darrell will be accompanied by Theo Wolffe, the National Youth Policy Working Group Chair, Shanyce Morris - a young Bermudian working in London with a strong interest in youth - and Brandon Sousa from the Bermuda Government's London Office.
