Good evening all!
As we close out today's wonderful celebratory events recognising Flora Duffy, I just want to take a moment to thank each of you for coming here this evening to honour our Golden Girl!
This entire week, from the historic motorcade through to today has simply been a truly memorable one, and I don't think I've ever experienced anything quite like this in my entire lifetime.
Flora you trained during COVID, you competed during COVID, and you won during COVID; therefore it was important we found a way to celebrate during COVID.
To see Bermudians from all walks of life come together in a spirit of unity to showcase their National Pride has been incredibly moving.
So for that, we thank you Flora for bringing an entire country together during what has been such a difficult time.
On behalf of all our athletes, you have given us inspiration, you have given us an appetite for more medals, you have given us new possibilities, and you have lifted sport.
I should stress that all of the events and activities we've enjoyed wouldn't be possible without some serious planning, organisation and partnership.
So I'd like to take a moment to thank the teams at the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport, the Department of Communications, CiTV, Cabinet Office, and all of the hard working individuals across these Departments who helped pull this all together.
Also a special thanks to the Corporation of Hamilton, the Bermuda Tourism Authority and Goslings Ltd, for their generous support and partnership.
Thank you also to the amazing talent who have entertained us this afternoon.
And, lastly, thank you to our guest of honour, Flora Duffy who has made us so proud and given so much joy and brought us together exactly when we most needed it. Thank you, Flora.
This evening's events have been a culmination of something very special, and we are so glad we have been able to safely celebrate with you.
Ladies and gentlemen, as I close, once again, thank you for coming, thank you for honouring Flora with us, and I encourage you to take this feeling of national pride, unity and togetherness with you as we navigate the days and months ahead.
