The Ministry of Home Affairs is pleased to welcome The English Market as the fourth official retail partner in the Affordable Bermuda Basket, joining The Lindo’s Group, The MarketPlace, and The Garden Market in a growing network of grocers in support of the Government’s efforts to bring real relief to Bermuda’s families.
Launching at its main location on the lower level of Washington Mall in the heart of the City of Hamilton, The English Market offers added convenience and affordability, particularly for residents who live, work, or shop in the city. The English Market joins existing retail partners in the commitment to offer a 10% reduction on Basket items, following the 10% reduction received from local wholesalers under the Basket programme, ensuring that savings are passed directly on to consumers.
The Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne, JP, MP said, “The addition of The English Market expands our affordability network and enables this programme to reach even more residents with practical cost of living support.
“Bermudians have shared with us that grocery costs are unaffordable, and we are encouraged by the increasing number of local partners joining in the commitment to support households with these challenges. By offering another accessible location in Hamilton, we’re increasing options for busy working families and city shoppers. Every participating store helps us make everyday essentials more affordable, and that has a direct, positive impact on household budgets across the island.”
A spokesperson for The English Market said, “We’re glad to be part of this collaborative effort to ease the financial pressure on our community. As a central grocer in Hamilton, we know how important it is for people to have convenient, affordable choices and we’re committed to doing our part through the Basket.”
In the coming days, The English Market will add items from the Basket to their St. George’s location.
The Affordable Bermuda Basket offers reduced prices on key grocery items, including rice, dairy, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. As with other retailers, items under the Basket at The English Market will be clearly labeled so that shoppers can easily identify as tagged with the Affordable Bermuda branding in stores.
The Affordable Bermuda Basket is part of the Government’s wider Affordable Bermuda Agenda, which advances affordability across five pillars, underscored by transparency and fairness in the pricing of essential goods and critical services. The Affordable Bermuda Basket initiative will run through 31 July 2026.
