Dr. Barbara Ball, Public Health Scholarship 2024

"The Ministry of Health encourages students studying for a career in public health to apply for the Dr. Barbara Ball, Public Health Scholarship," said Minister of Health Kim Wilson, JP, MP. “This scholarship is designed for individuals passionate about making a difference in Bermuda's public health field and is awarded annually to Bermudian students with proven financial need.”

The prestigious Dr Barbara Ball Public Health Scholarship is named in honour of Bermudian Dr Barbara Ball, a renowned public health physician who dedicated her life to improving the lives of the downtrodden.

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements, including a minimum GPA of 3.0 (UK 2:2, IB 30) and a demonstration of financial need. To see the full criteria, go to www.gov.bm/barbara-ball-scholarship

Dr Ball, the first Bermudian woman to practice medicine in Bermuda, ardently advocated for people's rights. She was born in Bermuda in 1924 and earned her medical degree from Liverpool University Medical School in 1949. 

After a brief stint in the UK, she returned to Bermuda in 1954 to dedicate herself to the welfare of the underprivileged.
