December 2025 Retail Sales Index

Consumer Price Index

Today, the Ministry of Economy and Labour released the December 2025 Retail Sales Index publication (attached). 

December’s volume of retail sales index increased 0.9 per cent compared to last year.  In value terms, retail sales increased to an estimated $124.1 million.

Four of the seven sectors recorded year-over-year volume index increases in December 2025:  

  • The sales volume for Food Stores increased 1.6 per cent.
  • Service Stations’ sales volume rose 0.7 per cent.

  • The sales volume for Building Material Stores increased 3.3 per cent.

  • The All Other Store Types sector (comprising stores selling household items, furniture, appliances, electronics, pharmaceuticals and tourist-related goods), sales volume increased 5.9 per cent.

  • Liquor Stores’ sales volume decreased 3.3 per cent.
  • The sales volume at Motor Vehicle Stores decreased 5.5 per cent.
  • The sales volume at Apparel Stores decreased 2.2 per cent.

The following three sectors had decreases in sales volume compared to the previous year:

Selected overseas declarations increased 8.0 per cent compared to December 2024.
