2022 Sports Awards Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport’s Remarks

A very special good evening to Premier David Burt, my Ministerial colleagues, and to our award nominees, their families and supporters.
Welcome to the 40th Annual Sports Awards.

The theme of this year’s ceremony is “‘Resilience, Accomplishment, Success”.

After two years of not hosting this event in person, we are extremely delighted to be here with you to celebrate our amazing athletes.

As you know, the Sports Awards is organized for the purpose of identifying and recognizing the distinguished achievements of Bermudians in the field of sport. We are here to recoginise their hard work, their dedication, and their sporting contributions to Bermuda.

This year, we are also celebrating the camaraderie and national pride that comes from participating in or simply watching our home-grown sports talentcompete and perform and win.

Tonight, we are honouring those sports stars who have accomplished their highest goals in the past year…. And what a year it’s been!

Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, we’ve had some outstanding performances, and tonight we will learn more about the amazing accomplishments of close to 40 athletes.

There are many formulas for success. Your journey up until this day, and your journey from this day forward will have it’s up’s and down’s. However, it is you’re your discipline, dedication, and determination that will bring you continued success. The fact that you are here tonight is proof of your hard work, and your drive to achieve excellence, and we are here tonight to recognize the impact you have made on our sporting community this past year.

So on this occasion as the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport, I salute all of our 2022 nominees.

Win or lose, I extend a huge congratulations to each of you and please know that we will continue to do all that we can to encourage and support you in your sporting endeavours.

Thank you.
