The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors is recognising International Day of Peace on September 21 by encouraging residents to reflect on the role each of us can play in creating respectful, safe and peaceful communities.
International Day of Peace is an opportunity to promote peace and non-violence and to consider how our everyday choices can contribute to stronger relationships and communities.
Peace begins with the choices we make at home, at work, online and in our neighbourhoods. It requires respect for others, accountability for our actions and a commitment to resolving disagreements without harm.
The Ministry recognises that building peaceful communities is an ongoing responsibility shared across generations. Young people, families, seniors and communities all have an important role to play in fostering understanding, respect and positive relationships.
Small actions can make a meaningful difference . . . choosing our words carefully, listening before responding, treating others with dignity and seeking peaceful solutions when disagreements arise.
International Day of Peace also provides an opportunity to reflect on how we respond to differences within our homes, workplaces, schools and communities. Creating a culture of respect requires each person to consider how their words and actions affect others.
The Ministry encourages members of the public to mark the International Day of Peace by considering the choices they can make each day to promote greater understanding, dignity and peaceful resolution.
By doing these things, we can each contribute to a more peaceful and respectful Bermuda.
