Government of Bermuda to lead delegation to Washington, DC for Fintech Week 2026

The Premier and Minister of Finance, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, is leading a delegation to DC Fintech Week, which takes place from October 13 - 16, 2026, across venues in Washington, DC and Arlington, Virginia.

Organized by The Fintech Foundation, the conference comes as the United States continues to develop its approach to digital asset regulation, offering Bermuda an opportunity to engage directly with regulators and firms operating in the sector. The delegation will include representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Bermuda Monetary Authority, with support from the Bermuda Government Office in Washington, DC.

Bermuda has regulated digital asset businesses under the Digital Asset Business Act since 2018. The visit will include meetings with US regulators and industry representatives as policymakers consider the next phase of digital asset oversight.

The Premier will participate in a fireside conversation, “Building a Digital Asset Jurisdiction: A Conversation with David Burt, Premier of Bermuda,” moderated by Elad Roisman, Chief Regulatory and Policy Officer and General Counsel at Fireblocks, on October 13 at the World Bank headquarters. The conversation will examine Bermuda’s experience since introducing the Digital Asset Business Act in 2018, the growth of its digital asset sector, and the Government’s efforts to expand the practical use of digital assets across the local economy.

The Bermuda Monetary Authority will also be represented on the main stage, with Aqsa Zubair, Deputy Director, FinTech Supervision, speaking on the panel “Concentration, Interoperability & the Cross-Border Stress Test.”

During the visit, the Premier and delegation are scheduled to participate in several meetings with regulators and industry representatives, including Michael Selig, Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC); and Paul Atkins, Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Discussions will focus on developments in U.S. regulation, opportunities for continued regulatory engagement, the application of digital assets within Bermuda’s insurance and reinsurance market, and initiatives that support broader adoption on the island.

Premier Burt said, “Bermuda has always believed that responsible innovation is best achieved through partnership between government, regulators and industry.”

“As DC Fintech Week marks its 9th year, it provides an opportunity to share Bermuda’s experience as a digital asset jurisdiction and to learn from developments taking place in other markets. Since 2018, Bermuda has regulated digital asset businesses under a comprehensive statutory regime, and we look forward to continuing those conversations in Washington.”

Bermuda’s participation follows a year of continued growth in the island’s digital finance sector. In January 2026, the Government announced its ambition to become the world’s first fully onchain national economy with support from Circle and Coinbase. In May, Bermuda’s Cabinet approved policy proposals that would allow the Government to accept and invest in digital assets, with legislation now being prepared for the House of Assembly. According to the Bermuda Monetary Authority’s 2025 Annual Report, 49 digital asset business providers were operating in Bermuda at the end of 2025, compared with 36 a year earlier.

As Bermuda continues to expand its role in the digital asset sector, the Government remains focused on ensuring that growth in the industry translates into opportunity for Bermudians through investment, business activity and job creation. The visit to Washington is intended to support that objective while reinforcing Bermuda’s position as a respected and experienced jurisdiction in the sector.
