Premier the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP today said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of St. Vincent & The Grenadines as they face the possible eruption of the volcano La Soufriere. The Caricom Family is united in its desire to provide support where necessary and like our Regional partners we continue to hope for the best. I will be making contact with Prime Minister Gonsalves to personally convey these well wishes.”
La Soufriere last erupted in 1979 and today’s heightened alert comes as a result of increased seismic and volcanic activity. Reports indicate that plans are in place to effect the evacuation of residents in the area of the volcano.
