Status Update: The Ministry of Education on Hurricane Humberto

The Ministry of Education wishes to provide an update on the status of Bermuda public school closures in preparation for Hurricane Humberto.

Following The Bermuda Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) meeting held earlier today, the Department of Education is advising of the following:

  • Wednesday, 18 September: All public schools will close at 12:00 pm for the remainder of the day.
  • Thursday, 19 September: All public schools are CLOSED.

Parents and guardians should expect communication from their respective Principals this afternoon. As an additional layer of communication, to ensure that all parents and guardians are informed, separate communication from the Department of Education will be sent as well.            

All School and Programme Leaders have been advised as to the procedures they are to follow.

EMO instructions regarding the reopening of schools will be communicated as appropriate.

The Ministry of Education is advising of the following:

As per the standard hurricane protocol, The Bermuda Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) provides direction on how schools are to respond when a hurricane is approaching the island.

An EMO Meeting is scheduled for today, after which the Ministry will provide a further update regarding the plan for possible Bermuda public school closures and delays as a result of Hurricane Humberto.

School Principals and staff have also been reminded of the standard hurricane procedures via communication from the Department of Education.
