This outstanding 19 member team is recognised for their exceptional creativity, empathy, and teamwork in orchestrating a truly unforgettable event: The KMCC Wedding Experience, held on September 5, 2025.
In response to heartfelt conversations with clients who had long dreamed of being married, the KMCC team brought that dream to life through a beautiful, inclusive celebration. Recognising that this milestone may not be achieved in a traditional way, the team conceptualized and delivered a full wedding event, complete with décor, attire, music, and joyful participation from families and staff. The result was a deeply moving, dignified experience that allowed clients to feel truly honoured and celebrated.
More than just a feel-good moment, the event exemplified public service excellence at its best, showcasing innovation and collaboration, while building stronger connections between staff, clients, and the community partners to make it all possible.
The award acknowledges the collective efforts of more than a dozen staff members across the KMCC team, each of whom played a vital role in bringing this meaningful experience to life.
The Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, commended the team’s work, saying, “Congratulations to the K. Margaret Carter Centre Team under the Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors. Your work reflects the true purpose of public service, which is to create access and opportunity for all members of our community, including those with cognitive differences. Through the KMCC Wedding Experience, you showed that inclusion happens when barriers are removed and people are empowered to experience dignity and joy. I commend the KMCC team for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to improving lives through service.”
Echoing this sentiment, Acting Head of the Public Service, Jennifer Attride-Stirling, added, “This event is a testament to the impact public servants can have as they listen, care, and work together to enhance the lives of the people of Bermuda, and our clients. The KMCC team has demonstrated that true service is about creating moments that matter. We celebrate their achievement and thank them for reminding us of what it truly means to serve.”
