Public Service to observe 115th Anniversary of Half Marathon

115 Derby

On Friday, May 24, 2024, the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby will celebrate its 115th Anniversary, and the Public Service will observe the milestone occasion with a series of wellness activities this week.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, May 22), public servants and members of the community will participate in a lunchtime Wellness Walk around Hamilton. The special commemorative walk will feature past Derby Champions Kavin Smith, Ed Sherlock, Cal Bean and Debbie Butterfield.

Tomorrow’s lunchtime Wellness Walk leaves the Cabinet Office around 12.30pm. The public is advised that there may be some minor traffic delays as the walkers make their way around Hamilton.

And on Bermuda Day, May 24, the Government is pleased to advise that 76 public officers will join the field of runners. Seven (7) public service relay teams, 21 speed-walkers, and 27 runners will participate in the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby.

“We believe health and wellness is paramount for the well-being of our employees” said the Head of the Public Service, Cherie Whitter. “So, we’re very pleased that a team of 76 public officers came together to celebrate this year’s Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby in such an engaging way. We encourage the community to cheer on our Public Service runners and walkers as they make their way along the race route.”
