Public Schools’ Remote Learning Programme Resumes on Monday

Commissioner of Education, Kalmar Richards, today confirmed that schools are to resume the remote learning program starting on Monday, April 20, as Bermuda continues the fight against COVID-19.

A key priority during this period is to ensure that educational activities continue through the extension of irregular school closures.

Commissioner Richards said: “We are well aware that some families are facing real challenges with respect to technology and internet access. We are analyzing our survey data and working hard with other partners to help resolve these issues.”

As Government has made a decision to extend the “shelter-in-place” regime until May 2nd, schools will resume the remote learning program, with some modifications, starting on Monday until further notice.

Hard copies of learning packets will be provided for students who do not have access to a device or the internet to ensure that all students are engaged in these learning activities.  These learning packets will be delivered to their roadside mailboxes by post office staff.

Senior schools will continue with the teaching of the essential curriculum.  Pre, Primary and Middle schools will focus learner activities on content and skills that have already been taught, balancing academics, physical activity and student wellbeing.

All families will receive additional details of the revised remote learning programme from school leaders by Monday morning.

New feedback mechanism in place

Members of the public education family are welcome to lodge any questions, concerns or suggestions on any matter concerning public education completing the feedback form at the following link: https://www.research.net/r/BPSSFEEDBACK

Mrs. Richards said: “These are trying times for us all, and we recognize that healthy communication is key to our performance as a system. This is why we have instituted a new feedback mechanism for employees, teachers, parents and students.”

The Commissioner added: “It is hoped that our families will continue to resolve any school issues directly with school leaders. However, they can avail themselves of the new form should they wish any feedback to come directly to my Office.”

The Department will continue to provide updates through its Facebook page, email, school apps, social media, and the website (www.moed.bm).
