Prospective Ridesharing Operators Invited to Prepare for Application Process

Tourism Transport Culture Sport

The Ministry of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport is advising individuals interested in becoming ridesharing operators to ensure they meet the necessary requirements ahead of the upcoming application period.

A key requirement for participation in the ridesharing programme is holding a valid Public Service Vehicle Licence (PSVL), which permits the holder to operate a public service vehicle. Individuals who do not currently hold this licence are encouraged to submit an application as soon as possible via the Transport Control Department’s online portal using the shortcut link https://bit.ly/PublicServiceVehicleLicenceApplication or www.transportcontrol.gov.bm/applications

The online ridesharing application process will open on 30 April and close on 14 May. During this period, eligible applicants may submit their interest in being considered for a ridesharing permit.

To be considered for inclusion in the initial cohort, applicants must hold a valid PSVL at the time of application. Licences issued solely for Heavy Truck or Community Service Vehicle operations do not qualify for ridesharing and will not be considered.

Up to 150 ridesharing permits will be issued through a randomised selection process. Submission of an application does not guarantee selection.

Applicants who submit a PSVL application will be contacted directly by the Transport Control Department with guidance on any additional requirements and next steps.

Ridesharing services are scheduled to go live on 10 June, following the completion of the application and selection process. Ridesharing will complement the existing taxi industry by enhancing service availability during periods of high demand, while maintaining a balanced and well-regulated transport network.

The Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, the Hon. Owen Darrell, stated: “Ridesharing forms an important part of our broader efforts to modernise Bermuda’s transport network and improve service availability, particularly during periods of high demand. We encourage those interested to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements and are prepared to apply within the designated timeframe.”
