Last Friday (July 26), the Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, was pleased to welcome Dr. Sandy De Silva, the Family Centre’s Executive Director and Mr. Ian Truran, CEO of Clarien Bank to the Cabinet Office to help launch the Family Centre’s Cup Match Tag Day.
And in the spirit of the upcoming holiday, and as an avid Somerset fan, Premier Burt was delighted to have Dr. De Silva pin one of the classic red and blue coloured ribbons to his lapel.
The public will be aware that the Cup Match Tag Day is the Family Centre’s most significant fundraiser of the year, and this year, once again, it is being dedicated to the memory of Family Centre’s founder, the late Martha Dismont.
As an important note, all funds raised through the purchase of the St. George’s and Somerset ribbons goes towards providing support for the helping services and community outreach programmes that are spearheaded by the charity.
And Premier Burt expressed his support for the work of the Family Centre, noting that recent challenges in our community have meant that residents have had to rely more on the counselling and therapeutic services they provide.
The Premier said, “As I shared in my address to Bermuda last week, our priority is to support those directly impacted by recent tragedies with compassion, empathy, and tangible assistance. There are people in our community who are hurting and, the recent tragedies further highlighted our community's need for additional resources to tackle anti-social behaviour and confront a mental health crisis. This government has promised to support these vital programmes. So, I was pleased to support the important work of the Family Centre. This is also a wonderful opportunity for all in our community to come together and unite around a very purposeful cause”
