Pilot Programme Provides Safety Devices to Seniors and Persons With Disabilities

The Ministry of Social Development and Seniors has launched a pilot programme with the Disability Center of Bermuda (DCOB) and Investing in Care Safety and Security (ICSS) to provide GPS life safety devices at a reduced cost for seniors with Dementia, Alzheimer’s and persons with disabilities.

Minister of Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP stated,  “In collaboration with DCOB, the Ministry is pleased to make funding available for families and medical professionals to supervise the safety of our vulnerable seniors and persons with disabilities. The funding will sponsor a limited number of devices to DCOB members at a discounted monthly rate.”

Minister Furbert added, “In addition to the life safety devices, DCOB will use proceeds from the grant to maintain a Disability Register that includes the name and basic demographic data of each person with a disability, including their disability group and their service needs.  Our Ministry will utilize the data to frame policy and legislation based on accurate and consistent data concerning the needs of the disabled.”
