"We are happy to offer this extension and invite more young people to be part of a programme that has consistently paved the way to successful career paths for its participants," stated the Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col. the Hon. David A. Burch, OBE (Mil), ED, JP, MP.
The Department of Parks announces the application deadline extension for the 10th cohort of its Skills Development Programme (SDP).
Young individuals aged 16 to 35 who are eager to make significant strides in horticulture and landscaping now have until Friday, 16 February 2024, to submit their applications.
This extension is an opportunity for those looking to enhance their life and technical skills to embark upon an organised curriculum that can lead to full-time employment upon successful completion.
The SDP is known for its comprehensive approach to skill development, combining hands-on training in horticulture and landscaping with essential life skills lessons, including first aid, health and safety, interview techniques, budgeting, and workplace expectations.
Training sessions are conducted three days a week on a volunteer basis, fostering professional growth and a sense of community and social responsibility among participants.
"Almost every individual from our last cohort has transitioned into full-time employment, a testament to the programme's effectiveness and the dedication of our participants," added Minister Burch.
"This programme is more than just training -- it's an investment in our youth, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to excel personally and professionally.
"We look forward to welcoming the new cohort and seeing their development and contributions to our community."
The Department of Parks encourages prospective applicants to view this inspiring video, which features testimonials from previous cohort members.
These success stories highlight the personal and professional growth experienced through the SDP, underscoring the programme's impact on participants' lives and careers.
